Annual General Meeting

Forty one people attended the 61st Annual General Meeting held in the Clubrooms on 3 December 2004. The Club reported an audited profit of $18,011, an increase of $16,000 on 2003. Life memberships were awarded to Shane Arnol and Ian Parker and certificates of merit awarded to Lea Arnol and Chris Smith. Hank Petrusma was appointed Patron and John Devine and Doug Parkinson MLC appointed Vice Patrons.

Christmas Party

Come along to the Christmas Party in the Clubrooms on Saturday 18 December 2004 commencing at 3.30 p.m. Santa will be arriving at 4.30 p.m. to hand out lollies and cordials to the kids. BBQ tea from 5.30 p.m., followed by music from 6 p.m. to midnight by
DJ Dazz. Cost is $5 plus plate of salad or dessert per person. Lucky door prize. Book at Club or ring 6234 3473 to assist catering arrangements.

Melbourne Cup

We have a few vacancies in next years sweep. The cost is $100 which can be paid at the rate of $2 a week. Sweep participants receive free food and drinks until the cup is run. Sweep prizes are 1st $1,000, 2nd $500, 3rd $300 and last $100. Ring the Club or call in if you wish to participate. .

Player News

Congratulations to the following player who celebrates a birthday this week - Sam Krushka (23).

Pre-season training continues weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until 16 December at New Town High School Oval. Training will then go in to recess until Monday 10 January 2005.

Question Time

Shane Arnol won three bottles of wine for correctly answering last week’s question. The correct answer was Alan Rait, Noel Clarke, Byron Howard Jnr and Robbie Devine.

Question time will now go into recess until the new-year.

This Weeks Featured Past Player - John Leedham

When John Leedham took over as captain and coach it was after the Club’s worst season since 1926 and the longest premiership hiatus in history. He turned it around quickly and during his coaching reign the Club didn’t finish outside of the four. The Demons were runner up in 1956 and premiers in 1957. “John L”, as he became known, was a match winner who kicked, marked and handballed with uncanny skill. John was captain/coach of Tasmania’s Centenary carnival team which defeated South Australia and western Australia. It was Tasmania’s most successful carnival in the first division. Since the conclusion of his playing career John has had a close association with the Club. Season 2005 is his 8th consecutive year as Club President, a Club record. John played 114 games for the Club, 14 times TFL/ Tasmanian representative, Tasmanian captain/coach and All Australian in 1957.

Hall of Fame

We will be inducting more people in to the Hall of Fame in 2005. It is proposed to hold the induction ceremony and dinner in April/May 2005. Further details will be advised in the new- year.

In the meantime, we are inviting members to nominate candidates for 2005 induction. Nomination forms are available from the Club. Call the Club on 6234 3473 to obtain a nomination form. Come on we have not received any nominations yet!!
